Toronto Marlies
In the 1980s and 1990s, the American Hockey League had a firm presence in Atlantic Canada. However, by 2004 the only franchise remaining in the region was the St. John’s Maple Leafs. Its parent team the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs decided to relocate the team to Toronto. Thus, the Toronto Marlies was founded in 2005. The team plays their home games at the Ricoh Coliseum. They are the member of the North Division of the Western Conference of the American Hockey League. The Toronto Marlies derived their name from the former junior hockey team of the Toronto Marlboroughs. The team won the Division Championships of the 2007-08 season. The present captain Ben Ondrus is determined to win the American Hockey League of the 2008-09!
